I remember the gator crawls off the coast of Beirut. I was in deck division aspiring to be a BM. I remember drinking beer on the flight deck cause we were out at sea so long without taking a break, everyone that wanted one had their choice of 2- 16 oz. Miller Lights or Malt Liquor . I remember sun tanning on the flight deck and kicking back that day while the Marines made sure we didnt get to close to the edge of the flight deck and fall off.

Then it was back to General Quarters...Battle stations off the coast of Lebanon for what it seemed like forever.
I remember being on aft lookout when we were evacuating Palestinians and I had to report a dead cow floating in the water,ha ha ha they thought I was going nuts so they sent the messenger of the watch to check on me and sure enough the cow report was official. Had some great times on board that ship...sad to hear she's at the bottom of the ocean.

My discharge orders came sometime in 83 to go home.
I took a helicopter from the Guam to the Carrier, I think it was the Independence, and then to Rota Spain, from there it was an 11 hour flight in a c-130 back to Norfolk. I've been a civilian ever since.
